Hughes To The DLPosted: April 16, 2011
Yesterday, instead of sending Phil Hughes down to the minors to work on some things, the Yankees decided to place him on the 15-day disabled list with what they are calling a dead arm issue. It was apparent that Hughes could not stay in the rotation as he just couldn’t get anyone out. His velocity is down and his control has been awful. So far in 2011, he has pitched to an 0-1 record with a 13.94 ERA, a 2.23 WHIP, a 31 ERA+, and a -0.3 WAR.
Lance Pendleton was brought up to replace Hughes and Pedro Feliciano will be placed on the 60-day DL to make room for him on the 40-man roster. It is still not certain who will take the open rotation spot, but it will either be Bartolo Colon or Hector Noesi. Noesi was called from the Triple A Scranton a few nights ago to replace Luis Ayala.
