A Kevin Millwood Update

After a few starts in extended Spring Training trying to stretch his arm out, Kevin Millwood made a start for Double A Trenton today and yielded mixed results.  Via RAB, he threw seven one-hit innings, throwing 88 pitches, 60.2% of which were strikes.  However, he walked four batters and only struck out three.  You wouldn’t expect this from a veteran that’s been around as much as he has. Maybe the strikeouts shouldn’t be that high because according to scouting reports he is living at around 86 mph with his fastball, but the walks should definitely be lower.

The Yankees signed Millwood near the beginning of the season to a minor league deal after seeing him throw a number of times.  He has an opt-out clause for May 1 so if Ivan Nova continues to pitch poorly or Bartolo Colon proves to be an incapable starter, he could get a shot.  If not, he could just proving to another team that he still can pitch.
