Outlook On Hughes Pretty GoodPosted: April 24, 2011
Phil Hughes was supposed to throw a bullpen session on Friday, but the rain washed that away and he had to throw a 45-pitch extended session yesterday. He apparently simulated three 15-pitch innings in the pen and it went pretty well. Larry Rothschild gave him the okay to start minor league rehab assignments. He will actually start a minor league game this coming Thursday and will probably pitch around five innings.
I hope his arm is feeling a lot better now that he has gotten a some time off. He has been able to get out of his own head and actually just work on things without the thought of winning. The Yanks really need to take their time with this though. We don’t want Hughes to come back and not be completely 100%. That would not be helpful. Hopefully, the team continues to win so Hughes and the front office don’t feel this pressure.
