AJ Decent Enough In 5-4 WinPosted: May 1, 2011
After a very tough loss on Friday night to the Jays, the Yankees sent out an A-Rodless lineup to try and cause a split in the first two games of the series. Even without the extra firepower, the Yanks would win a Drabek vs. Burnett re-match 5-4. Here’s the recap:
- AJ Burnett went 6 IP, 9 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 4 K while throwing 82 pitches (50 of which were strikes). He was only okay, but some was good as he didn’t walk anyone and he did have a good curveball. He is now 4-1 and leads the team in wins.
- For the last nine outs Joe Girardi went to Jo-So-Mo which got the job done. Joba Chamberlain was especially good as he only need six pitches to get through his frame.
- The Bombers once again scored all of their runs early against Kyle Drabek using the same game plan they did the first time they faced him. They took a lot of pitches and made him beat himself. And they didn’t need any of those supposed evil homers to score their five runs.
- However, they were no-hit by the Jays pen only able to manage one walk.
The rubber game will be played today on YES at 1:05. It will be Ivan Nova going against Jesse Litsch.
