Cano Injury UpdatePosted: May 1, 2011
Update (5:00): Via Jack Curry, Cano went for precautionary x-rays on his left hand and they came back negative. He told a Yankee official he plans on playing tomorrow.
Original (4:46): When Eric Chavez put in to pinch hit for Robinson Cano in the eighth inning today, it rose many eyebrows. However, Joe Girardi said after the game that he bruised the pad in the palm of his hand when fielding a sinker-like pick-off throw during the game. Kevin Long said Cano came to him and told him he couldn’t swing. Robbie went on to ice it and get treatment and he is considered day-to-day. K-Long says he expects him to be in the lineup tomorrow against Detroit. I wouldn’t be surprised though if he was given a day off because he has played in all of the Yanks 25 games so far in 2011 and this could be an excuse for Girardi to give him a day off.
