Kevin Whelan Gets The CallPosted: June 10, 2011
Via Donnie Collins, the Yankees have finally called up Kevin Whelan from Triple A Scranton. Whelan, 27, was the closer for Scranton and was very impressive in 25 appearances saving 18 games while pitching to a 1.67 ERA and a 0.85 WHIP. He is a fastball-splitter guy who has finally found command this season. I have been waiting for Whelan to be called up for a while now instead of the Yanks carrying two long relief men and now the injury to Joba Chamberlain has forced the brass to finally make the call. He is the last piece of the Gary Sheffield trade still in the organization so hopefully he can make something happen.
