Yanks Add Some Relief ArmsPosted: June 15, 2011
Via Ken Davidoff, the Yankees are on the verge of signing former Phillies minor league starter/reliever Brian Gordon. Gordon has put together some good numbers for the Philadelphia’s Triple A affiliate pitching to a 1.14 ERA and striking out 9.11 per nine innings and only walking 1.14 per nine innings. Davidoff says that Gordon could join the Yanks by mid-week and is a candidate to start Thursday’s game.
Via RAB, the Bombers have signed relievers Greg Smith and Cory Wade. Smith is more of a filler, but has some value in that he is a lefty. Wade on the other hand, is a possible option for the bullpen as he has pitched well for the Dodgers in the past. These moves were just made to add some pitching depth that the Yankees desperately need with all the injuries.
