Yanks Sign Wade, Send Down Whelan

The Yankees made another roster move today and that was signing Cory Wade to a major league deal and optioning Kevin Whelan to Triple A Scranton.  Wade, 28, will probably throw more strikes than Whelan and does have some Major League experience.  I’m writing this up in the seventh/eighth inning and he just entered the game so that’s pretty cool.

For Triple-A Durham (Rays affiliate), in 36.2 innings, has pitched to a 1.23 ERA and struck out 8.35 per nine innings and walked just 1.47 per nine.  He had a very good year in 2008 for the Dodgers and had a 2.27 ERA and had simlar peripherals to the ones he posted in Triple-A this season.  We’ll see if he can pitch well and work his way into meaningful outings.
