Yankees @ Cubs Series Preview

I’m gonna be pretty busy on Friday so I am writing this in the very early morning.  This being said I’m gonna keep this short and sweet, by giving you just a little bit.

The Cubs currently sit at 28-40 and in fifth place in the National League Central, but just took three of four from the hot Brewers.  This is a tough year for the Cubbies, they don’t really have much of anything.  The players to look out for are the young, shortstop Starlin Castro, who has a hitting line of .309/.333/.422.  Here’s a look at the projected lineup:

  1. Kosuke Fukudome, RF
  2. Starlin Castro, SS
  3. Aramis Ramirez, 3B
  4. Carlos Pena, 1B
  5. Blake DeWitt, LF
  6. Geovany Soto, C
  7. Jeff Baker, 2B
  8. Reed Johnson, CF
  9. Pitcher

Here’s a look at the projected pitching match-ups:

Freddy Garcia (5-5, 3.60 ERA) vs. Doug Davis (0-5, 5.90 ERA)

AJ Burnett (6-5, 4.09 ERA) vs. Ryan Dempster (5-5, 5.48 ERA)

CC Sabathia (8-4, 3.28 ERA) vs. Randy Wells (1-1, 5.63 ERA)

Players To Watch

Let’s keep an on eye on AJ and CC.  AJ is coming off a tough loss and CC is coming off a win where he didn’t have his best stuff.  We’ll see how they both respond.  Also, both have spent time in NL, so even though I’m still bitter about the whole Chien-Ming Wang incident back in 2008, I still want to see these guys take a few hacks.

Key To The Series

It’s all about the pitching.  I trust the hitting, so starters are gonna have togo deep into games and Joe Girardi is gonna need to do a good job of managing his bullpen and not overusing anyone.

It should be a fun and interesting series.  We have some national games on Saturday and Sunday, but tomorrow’s can be seen on YES and will start at the odd time of 2:20.
