Reds @ Yankees Series Preview

Once again I am low on time and I’m gonna keep this short and sweet.  The Reds have won four of their last six and sit in third place in the National League Central at 38-35, two games out of first.

Offensively, the two guys to look out for are of course the 2010 NL MVP Joey Votto and Jay Bruce.  Votto’s power numbers aren’t what they were, but he’s still hitting .327/.449/.506.  Bruce on the other hand has seventeen jacks and is batting .285/.356/.524.  Drew Stubbs, Scott Rolen and Brandon Phillips are also two other dangerous hitters to look out for.  Here’s a projected lineup:

  1. Drew Stubbs, CF
  2. Brandon Phillips, 2B
  3. Joey Votto, 1B
  4. Jay Bruce, RF
  5. Scott Rolen, 3B
  6. Jonny Gomes, LF
  7. Ryan Hanigan, C
  8. Paul Janish, SS
  9. Pitcher

Now here are the pitching match-ups:

Monday

Ivan Nova (6-4, 4.46 ERA) vs. Johnny Cueto (4-2, 1.68 ERA)

Tuesday

Brian Gordon (0-0, 3.38 ERA) vs. Travis Wood (5-4, 5.11 ERA)

Wednesday

Freddy Garcia (5-6, 3.63 ERA) vs. Mike Leake (6-3, 4.04 ERA)

The players to keep an eye on are Brian Gordon and Cory Wade on the bump.  Let’s see if they can keep pitching well and stay with the team a little longer.  And in the lineup, Nick Swisher.  Swish has been on a tear of late batting .309/.452/.618 for the month of June and has hit four of his seven homers during the month.  Hopefully, he can stay hot.
