Yanks Win 5-2, Make it Seven StraightPosted: July 2, 2011
Another day, another game, and another win for the Yankees as they make it seven in a row. It was just a very good game all around. Let’s recap:
- Bart Colon was due for 80-85 pitches today, and coming off hi hammy injury, he was very good, classic Colon if you will. He went six innings allowing no runs on six hits while striking out six and walking none. He wound up throwing 80 pitches on the day, 56 good for strikes. He’s back!
- Cory Wade was also very good out of the bullpen allowing two hits in two scoreless innings of work. And then, the Sergio Mitre experience made its 2011 Yankees debut and he tried so hard to give the lead back, but was unsuccessful only giving up two runs.
- The Bomber broke a 0-0 tie in the sixth as they exploded for four runs. It went Gardner fly out, Granderson homer, Teixeira single, A-Rod single, Cano triple, Swisher sac fly. Until this, Mets starter Dillon Gee was throwing the ball well and keeping them off balance. They got their other run on a ninth inning solo shot by Eduardo Nunez.
- Every Yankee starting position player got on base except for Brett Gardner who had a very tough 0 for 5 day. Nunez had the biggest day going 3 for 4, making him 7 for his last 8. Alex Rodriguez also had a solid two hits and scored a run.
It was a nice day for the Yankees and they will go for the sweep tomorrow afternoon as it will be RA Dickey against Freddy Garcia.
