Yanks Show Interest In Sean BurnettPosted: July 8, 2011
Via MLBTR, the Yankees are interest in the Nationals lefty reliever Sean Burnett. Brian Cashman has made it clear that he is looking for left-handed relief help so it’s not all that surprising. The Yankees even have a scout at tonight’s Nats game, although no discussion is believed to have taken place yet between the two teams.
Burnett hasn’t been all that impressive striking out less than five per nine innings and walking almost three per nine while pitching to a 5.59 ERA in 2011. His track record is a little better than that as he does have a 3.98 ERA and does strike out more than six per nine in his career. He also does have very good splits with a .220 batting average against for lefties this season and .230 for his career. The good news with him is that with his down year, the Yanks might be able to get him pretty cheap.
