Game 89: Yankees @ Blue Jays Series Preview

(Courtesy of Filminglocations.com)

The All-Star Break is over and it’s time for baseball to resume.  The Yankees head up to Toronto to take on the Blue Jays in a four game set.  The Jays sit eleven games out of the American League East at 45-47 and won three straight to end the first half.  Let’s take a look at the pitching match-ups:

Thursday

Bartolo Colon (6-4, 3.20 ERA) vs. Jojo Reyes (4-7, 4.57 ERA)

Friday

Freddy Garcia (7-6, 3.13 ERA) vs. Brandon Morrow (5-4, 4.60 ERA)

Saturday

CC Sabathia (13-4, 2.72 ERA) vs. Ricky Romero (7-8, 3.09 ERA)

Sunday

Phil Hughes (0-2, 10.57 ERA) vs. Carlos Villanueva (5-1, 2.99 ERA)

I’ve previewed the Jays a few times this season and don’t want to repeat myself so just watch out for Jose Bautista, of course.  On the mound, Romero and Morrow are the pitchers to watch for Toronto because they both have the ability to shut down a lineup. For the Yanks, look at Colon and Hughes: was Colon’s last out in and fluke?  And will Hughes improve?  Here’s tonight’s Yankee lineup:

  1. Derek Jeter, SS
  2. Curtis Granderson, CF
  3. Mark Teixeira, 1B
  4. Robinson Cano, 2B
  5. Nick Swisher, RF
  6. Russell Martin, C
  7. Andruw Jones, DH
  8. Eduardo Nunez, 3B
  9. Brett Gardner, LF

And it will be big Bartolo Colon on the bump.  This one will start a little after 7 pm and can be seen on YES and MLB Network.  Let’s Go Yanks!!
