Garcia Gets Rocked Third Time Around, Yanks LosePosted: July 16, 2011
After last night’s game, I was hoping for a big performance fro Freddy Garcia and a big win. I was disappointed, however, as the Yanks fell in what turned out to be a blow out, 7-1. Let’s recap:
- Freddy Garcia got into some early trouble as he is starting to make a habit of allowing a first inning run. After that though, it looked like he had settled down like always and was going to give the Yankees six strong innings. But in the fourth, the Jays were able to score two more and then scored another three to make 6-1 and essentially put the game out of reach.
- Brandon Morrow did bring his A-game, but the Yankees did have opportunities early on before he got into a groove. They got the first two runners of the game on base, but then Mark Teixeira, Robbie Cano, and Nick Swisher hit consecutive pop ups to end the threat. In the second, the Bombers did manage a run, but had runners on first and second with one out, but Derek Jeter struck out and Curtis Granderson grounded out. That was it.
- Cory Wade came on in relief and was pretty good tossing two scoreless innings and struck out four. But then, of course, Joe Girardi gave the ball to Sergio Mitre who was leaving balls up just like last night, but only yielded one run in his one frame. He did actually get a ground ball double play to end the inning.
- Morrow was really good though. He had that power slider working and he got six K’s in 6.2 innings. He actually retired eleven straight hitters at one point.
I’m done with this one. These same two teams will meet tomorrow at a little bit after one. Hopefully it ends better than these last two games have.
