Yankees Farm Report: August 3, 2011

Today’s notes:

  • Austin Romine was scratched from Trenton’s lineup tonight with a strained back. Not sure how long he’ll be out for.
  • Mark Prior took a line drive off the arm today while throwing BP and has a bruise. He was coming back from that groin injury.
  • Dante Bichette Jr. won GCL Player of the Month.

Triple-A

The Yankees had a scheduled day off.

Double-A

Akron 3 – Trenton 2

Melky Mesa went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored, Damon Sublett went 1 for 4 with a run driven in and one scored, and Addison Maruszak went 0 for 2 but drove in a run. Corban Joseph, Zoilo Almonte, and Jose Pirela each notched hits as well. Graham Stoneburner got the start and allowed two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out four. Josh Romanski followed and gave up the game-winning homer in the top of the ninth and was saddled with the loss. He did strike out two in his 1.2 innings though.

High-A

The Yankees had a scheduled day off.

Low-A

Charleston 3 – Asheville 7

Gary Sanchez was batting sixth for some reason, but he still went 3 for 4 with two homers and three runs driven in. Anderson Feliz went 2 for 4 with a walk and a double, Jose Toussen went 1 for 4 with a walk, and Ramon Flores went 1 for 4 with a run scored. On the hill, Steve Evarts allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five in 3.2 innings. Michael Recchia and Danny Barreda each added scoreless outing out of the pen and combined to strike out three in their 3.1 innings of work.

Short Season-A

Staten Island 5 – Mahoning Valley 13

Ben Gamel and Cody Grice each went 2 for 4 with a homer and a walk, Mason Williams went 1 for 2 with a ribbie and two walks, and Angelo Gumbs went 1 for 4 with a double, a walk, and a run scored. Zack Wilson and Cito Culver each went hitless though. Richard Martinez allowed six runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out two in three innings. Dustin Hobbs followed by giving five runs (two earned) on three hits and two walks. Cito Culver, Reymond Nunez, and Zack Wilson made the errors.

GCL

GCL Yankees 8 – GCL Pirates 5

Ravel Santana went 3 for 3 with two walks, a run scored, and two driven in, Dante Bichette went 2 for 5 with two ribbies, and Matt Duran went 2 for 4 with a walk and two runs scored. Claudio Custodio also walked, stole a base, and scored a run while Jackson Valera went hitless. On the bump, Deward Cruz carried a perfect game into the fifth when he finally allowed a hit, a walk, and an unearned run. Daniel Martinez, George Isabel, and Leonel Vinas all added scoreless innings in relief.
