Angels @ Yankees Series PreviewPosted: August 9, 2011
Coming off a 5-2 road trip the Yankees head home to start a home stand against the Angels and Rays. The Halos come into this series 1.5 games out of first place in the American League West at 63-52 winning six of their last ten. Let’s take a look at the pitching match-ups:
Dan Haren (12-6, 2.81 ERA) vs. AJ Burnett (8-9, 4.54 ERA)
Hisanori Takahashi (3-2, 3.35 ERA) vs. Ivan Nova (10-4, 3.81 ERA)
Tyler Chatwood (6-8, 4.10 ERA) vs. Bartolo Colon (8-6, 3.33 ERA)
The first two are the one’s to look out for here. AJ Burnett was awful in his last start against the White Sox. He was given a 13-1 and couldn’t even complete five innings. His opponent, Haren, is having a very good year, but he throws strikes so the Yanks are gonna have to be aggressive. On Wednesday, we’ll see if Ivan Nova can continue his good pitching against Takahashi who seemed to have the Bombers number when he pitched against them. He has a very good change up if you don’t remember, a pitch that always give the Yankees trouble.
The players to look out for on the Angels offense are Howie Kendrick (.302/.359/.446), Alberto Callaspo (.287/.366/.362), Mark Trumbo (22 homers), and Torii Hunter (14 homers). Other than that, there’s no one to be truly afraid of in their lineup.
This is gonna be an interesting series as the Yanks come off a tough series loss from the Red Sox, but I still see them taking two out of three. Let’s still hope for a sweep though. Tonight’s game will start a little after 7 pm.
