Goldstein Gives Some GCL Yanks LovePosted: August 10, 2011
I don’t know about you, but my favorite Yankee minor league affiliate to follow are the GCL Yankees. I think it’s because everyone is raw and you can dream on almost every player, but what do I know. Anyway, Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus gave a few player on the GCL Yankees some love. In a piece about 2011 draftees who have signed already, he talked a little bit about Dante Bichette. Here’s what he said:
Bichette signed quickly for a slightly above-slot bonus of $750,000, and he’s been amongst the most impressive bats in the Gulf Coast League, hitting .329/.446/.507 in 37 games while showing excellent plate discipline and power potential. It’s debatable whether he’ll stick at the hot corner, but Bichette, the spitting image of his father, should have enough hitting skills to still be a prospect as a corner outfielder.
In his daily Minor League Update, Goldstein gave center fielder Ravel Santana a shout out:
19-year-old Dominican is a high-ceiling tools machine with above-average power and speed; .281/.345/.548 in 36 games.
The GCL team clearly has a lot of talent on it and it’s good to see them getting some love.
