Yankees Farm Report: August 11, 2011

Today’s notes:

  • The Yankees signed their 25th round draft pick, Adam Smith.
  • Dan Brewer is back on the disabled list, Terry Tiffee was activated and Wilkins Arias was promoted to Triple-A Scranton.

Triple-A

Scranton 0 – Gwinnett 1

Jesus Montero went 1 for 4, Jorge Vazquez went 1 for 3 with a double, and Mike Lamb and Jordan Parraz each walked twice. On the mound, Lance Pendleton got the start and allowed a run on six hits and a walk while striking out two in five innings. Andrew Brackman followed him with three scoreless innings and allowed a hit and struck out two in three innings, which is really good to see and hopefully he can build on it. Buddy Carlyle also added a scoreless inning of relief.

Double-A

Trenton 8 – Binghamton 5

Austin Krum homered, walked, and drove in two, Jose Pirela went 2 for 4 with a double, a walk, and two runs scored, and Rob Lyerly went 3 for 5 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Melky Mesa also went 1 for 3 with a walk and two runs scored, Zoilo Almonte doubled and drove in two, and Yadil Mujica went 2 for 3 with a walk, a stolen base, two ribbies, and a run scored. Corban Joseph did go 0 for 5 with two whiffs. Steve Garrison scattered eleven hits and allowed five runs in five innings. Brad Halsey added two scoreless innings in relief, Kanekoa Texeira one scoreless, and Ryan Pope nailed down the save.

High-A

Tampa 4 – Clearwater 0

Luke Murton went 2 for 4 with a run driven in, DeAngelo Mack went 1 for 3 with a walk, drove in a run, scored one, and stole a base, and Kyle Roller went 1 for 2 with two walks, two run scored, and a stolen base. Brett Marshall hurled five scoreless innings while allowing one hit and striking out four. Kramer Sneed followed with 1.2 innings of scoreless ball while striking out two and Reiner Casanova struck out four in 2.1 scoreless innings.

Low-A

Charleston 0 – West Virginia 4

Jose Toussen went 1 for 4, Kelvin DeLeon went 2 for 3, and Kevin Mahoney went 1 for 3. The rest of the team went hitless. Jose Ramirez got the start and allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits and one walk while striking out four in six frames. Francisco Rondon struck out three in two hitless innings. Not much more to report on for this game.

Short Season-A

Staten Island 7 – Williamsport 5

Mason Williams went 2 for 3 with a triple, three ribbies, a run scored, and a walk, Cito Culver went 3 for 5 with two doubles, a run driven in, two scored, and a stolen base, and Ben Gamel went 2 for 5. Cody Grice also had a big game going 2 for 5 with with a double, a run scored, one driven in, and a stolen base. Ali Castillo also added two hits, and Reymond Nunez and Tyler Austin each collected one each as well. On the hill, Will Oliver struck out five and walked four in 4.2 innings. Bill Gerritse struck out one and walked one in 4.2 innings, Phil Wetherell tossed two perfect innings, and Zach Arneson allowed a run in an inning of work.

GCL

GCL Yankees 6 – GCL Phillies 4

Claudio Custodio went 3 for 4 with two runs driven in, one scored, and a stolen base, Bubba Jones went 1 for 3 with a walk, and Jackson Valera went 2 for 2 with two walks. Dante Bichette went 0 for 4, Matt Duran went 0 for 3 with a walk, and Ravel Santana went 1 for 4 with a run scored. On the bump, Gabe Encinas allowed three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out two in five innings. Cory Cowsert added a scoreless inning while striking out two and Joaquin Hinojosa allowed an unearned run in one inning of relief.

GCL Yankees 7 – GCL Phillies

Ravel Santana went 3 for 4 with a double, two stolen bases, two runs scored, and one driven in, Dante Bichette went 2 for 2 with two walks, and Isaias Tejada went 2 for 4 with a double, three ribbies, and a run scored. Matt Duran also went 1 for 3 with two ribbies and Justin James went 0 for 2 with a walk and two runs scored. Taylor Morton got the start and allowed three runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out three in four innings. Edwin Rodriguez tossed three scoreless innings in relief while only allowed a hit.
