Yankees Farm Report: August 15, 2011

Recent notes:

  • Gary Sanchez was placed on the disabled list with some sort of hand injury and is likely out for the season.
  • Dellin Betances has been promoted from Double-A Trenton to Triple-A Scranton.
  • Ravel Santana broke his ankle in two places and tore some ligaments. He’s out until at least Spring Training of next year.
  • Josh Romanski was demoted from Double-A to High-A Tampa while Kei Igawa was activated from Trenton’s disabled list along with Ray Kruml.
  • Today’s Amateur Draft Signing Day so we’ll probably see a good amount of signings today. Daniel Camarena, 20th round pick, signed. I’m a big fan and here’s a very, very brief Keith Law scouting report. It was also reported that they are close to signing sixth rounder Jake Cave.

Triple-A

The Yankees had both of their games today rained out.

The Thunder had a scheduled day off.

Low-A

Hickory 4 – Charleston 1

Jose Toussen wet 2 for 4 and Ramon Flores, Kevin Mahoney, and Kyle Higashioka were all 1 for 4, Flores doubled, Mahoney scored a run, and Higashioka drove in a run. Eduardo Sosa and Anderson Feliz each turned in hitless performances. On the hill, Shane Greene turned in a solid performance hurling five scoreless innings while allowing five hits, three walked, and striking out six. He also got six grounders as opposed to only one fly ball. Tommy Kahnle didn’t have the same type of night allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits and two walks while striking out three. Kelving Perez turned in two hitless innings in relief while striking out four.

Short Season-A

The Yankees were off because of their All-Star Break and will not play again until Wednesday.

GCL

GCL Pirates 4 – GCL Yankees 3

Jose Rosario and Austin Jones each had two hits, Rosario tripled and drove in a run and Jones scored a run and Claudio Custodio, Dante Bichette, and Isaias Tejada each added a hit each, Custodio stole a base and scored a run, Bichette doubled and scored a run, and Tejada doubled and drove in a run. Matt Duran also had a nice day going 0 for 2 with two walks and a run driven in. On the bump, Mark Prior got the start and struck out three and walked one in hitless inning. Reynaldo Polanco followed with five innings of three run ball while allowing two hits and three walks while striking out two. Kenedy Agramonte then came on and tossed two perfect innings.


Yankees Farm Report: August 11, 2011

Today’s notes:

  • The Yankees signed their 25th round draft pick, Adam Smith.
  • Dan Brewer is back on the disabled list, Terry Tiffee was activated and Wilkins Arias was promoted to Triple-A Scranton.

Triple-A

Scranton 0 – Gwinnett 1

Jesus Montero went 1 for 4, Jorge Vazquez went 1 for 3 with a double, and Mike Lamb and Jordan Parraz each walked twice. On the mound, Lance Pendleton got the start and allowed a run on six hits and a walk while striking out two in five innings. Andrew Brackman followed him with three scoreless innings and allowed a hit and struck out two in three innings, which is really good to see and hopefully he can build on it. Buddy Carlyle also added a scoreless inning of relief.

Double-A

Trenton 8 – Binghamton 5

Austin Krum homered, walked, and drove in two, Jose Pirela went 2 for 4 with a double, a walk, and two runs scored, and Rob Lyerly went 3 for 5 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Melky Mesa also went 1 for 3 with a walk and two runs scored, Zoilo Almonte doubled and drove in two, and Yadil Mujica went 2 for 3 with a walk, a stolen base, two ribbies, and a run scored. Corban Joseph did go 0 for 5 with two whiffs. Steve Garrison scattered eleven hits and allowed five runs in five innings. Brad Halsey added two scoreless innings in relief, Kanekoa Texeira one scoreless, and Ryan Pope nailed down the save.

High-A

Tampa 4 – Clearwater 0

Luke Murton went 2 for 4 with a run driven in, DeAngelo Mack went 1 for 3 with a walk, drove in a run, scored one, and stole a base, and Kyle Roller went 1 for 2 with two walks, two run scored, and a stolen base. Brett Marshall hurled five scoreless innings while allowing one hit and striking out four. Kramer Sneed followed with 1.2 innings of scoreless ball while striking out two and Reiner Casanova struck out four in 2.1 scoreless innings.

Low-A

Charleston 0 – West Virginia 4

Jose Toussen went 1 for 4, Kelvin DeLeon went 2 for 3, and Kevin Mahoney went 1 for 3. The rest of the team went hitless. Jose Ramirez got the start and allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits and one walk while striking out four in six frames. Francisco Rondon struck out three in two hitless innings. Not much more to report on for this game.

Short Season-A

Staten Island 7 – Williamsport 5

Mason Williams went 2 for 3 with a triple, three ribbies, a run scored, and a walk, Cito Culver went 3 for 5 with two doubles, a run driven in, two scored, and a stolen base, and Ben Gamel went 2 for 5. Cody Grice also had a big game going 2 for 5 with with a double, a run scored, one driven in, and a stolen base. Ali Castillo also added two hits, and Reymond Nunez and Tyler Austin each collected one each as well. On the hill, Will Oliver struck out five and walked four in 4.2 innings. Bill Gerritse struck out one and walked one in 4.2 innings, Phil Wetherell tossed two perfect innings, and Zach Arneson allowed a run in an inning of work.

GCL

GCL Yankees 6 – GCL Phillies 4

Claudio Custodio went 3 for 4 with two runs driven in, one scored, and a stolen base, Bubba Jones went 1 for 3 with a walk, and Jackson Valera went 2 for 2 with two walks. Dante Bichette went 0 for 4, Matt Duran went 0 for 3 with a walk, and Ravel Santana went 1 for 4 with a run scored. On the bump, Gabe Encinas allowed three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out two in five innings. Cory Cowsert added a scoreless inning while striking out two and Joaquin Hinojosa allowed an unearned run in one inning of relief.

GCL Yankees 7 – GCL Phillies

Ravel Santana went 3 for 4 with a double, two stolen bases, two runs scored, and one driven in, Dante Bichette went 2 for 2 with two walks, and Isaias Tejada went 2 for 4 with a double, three ribbies, and a run scored. Matt Duran also went 1 for 3 with two ribbies and Justin James went 0 for 2 with a walk and two runs scored. Taylor Morton got the start and allowed three runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out three in four innings. Edwin Rodriguez tossed three scoreless innings in relief while only allowed a hit.

Yankees Farm Report: August 9, 2011

Today’s notes:

  • The Yankees signed their 25th round draft pick, Adam Smith.
  • Tyler Austin and Eric Wordekemper were taken off the disabled lists for Staten Island and Scranton, respectively.
  • Evan DeLuca, Mason Williams, Casey Stevenson, and Brandon Pinder were all names to NYPL All-Star Game.

Triple-A

Scranton 4 – Gwinnett 3

Adam Warren allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three in six frames. After that, Kevin Whelan hurled two scoreless and struck out two to get the win in extras. On offense, Jesus Montero went 1 for 3 with a homer, a walk, and two ribbies, Dan Brewer went 2 for 4 with a run scored, and Kevin Russo went 1 for 3 with a walk, a run scored, and one driven in. Brandon Laird and Jorge Vazquez each went hitless, but did each draw walks.

It’s after 12 am and the second game is still going on so I’m not gonna wait. Here’s the box score.

Double-A

Trenton 5 – Binghamton 6

Graham Stoneburner gave up five runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out five in 5.2 innings as the starter. In relief, struck out three and allowed a run in 1.1 innings and Cory Arbiso and Ryan Pope each tossed scoreless innings and combined to strike out three. On offense, Corban Joseph went 1 for 4 with a run scored, Rob Lyerly went 1 for 4 with a homer and three ribbies, and Melky Mesa went 1 for 3 with a double. Austin Krum and Zoilo Almonte each went hitless, Krum stole a base and drove in a run and Almonte drew a walk.

High-A

The Yankees were postponed due to rain and they will play two tomorrow.

Low-A

The Riverdogs had a scheduled day off.

Short Season-A

Staten Island 0 – Williamsport 1

Mason Williams went 1 for 4 with a double, Ben Gamel went 1 for 4, Reymond Nunez went 1 for 4 with a double, and Casey Stevenson went 2 for 3. Cito Culver, Cody Grice and Tyler Austin all went hitless, Austin worked a walk. On the hill, Bryan Mitchell struck out two and walked one and gave up a hit in six scoreless innings. Robert Paullus struck out two in two innings of work and Phil Whetherell allowed the winning run in the ninth.

GCL

GCL Yankees 3 – GCL Blue Jays 4

Ravel Santana and Claudio Custodio each went 3 for 4 with a double and a run scored, Santana stole a base and Custodio walked and stole two bases. Matt Duran had a big game also going 2 for 3 with a double, a homer, and two ribbies. Isaias Tejada, Dante Bichette, Austin Jones, and Justin James all went hitless, Bichette and Jones each struck out thrice. On the mound, Mark Prior continued his rehab striking out two and allowing a walk and a hit in an inning of work. Reynaldo Polanco followed with four runs allowed on four hits and four walks while striking out two in 3.1 innings and Mariel Checo struck out three in 1.2 innings of relief.

In the second game, the game got suspended in the bottom of the first due to rain with the Yankees down 1-0. Here’s the box score.

Today’s notes:

  • JC Romero was released. I guess they didn’t see anything in him to make them think he was better than Boone Logan.
  • Mark Newman says that Austin Romine could be back in about a week.
  • Mason Williams and Gary Sanchez were each named Offensive Player of the Week for their respective leagues.

Triple-A

Scranton 1 – Gwinnett 3

Chris Dickerson went 1 for 5 with a stolen base and a run scored, Mike Lamb went 3 for 4 with a run driven in, and Jordan Parraz went 1 for 3 with a walk. Greg Golson, Jorge Vazquez, and Doug Bernier each notched a hits as well while Jesus Montero went 0 for 5. On the mound, Greg Smith allowed three runs on four hits and five walks while striking out five in six innings. Josh Schmidt followed with three hitless innings while striking out two.

Double-A

The Thunder had a scheduled day off.

High-A

Tampa 3 – Dunedin 4

Kyle Roller went 1 for 3 with a homer and two ribbies, David Adams went 0 for 2 with a walk, and Abe Almonte and DeAngelo Mack each collected hits as well. Jeff Marquez continued his rehab with four runs allowed on six hits and a walk and a strikeout in 3.1 innings. Mikey O’Brien then came out of the pen and struck out six and walked five in four scoreless innings. Ryan Flannery also threw a perfect inning in relief.

Low-A

Charleston 5 – Savannah 1

Jose Toussen went 2 for 2, Taylor Grote went 1 for 3 with a triple and two ribbies, and Kevin Mahoney went 2 for 4 with two ribbies and a run scored. Jose Mojica also added a hit, Anderson Feliz walked and scored a run, and Ramon Flores drew a walk. Gary Sanchez went hitless. On the bump, Manny Barreda tossed three scoreless innings, Tommy Kahnle allowed and unearned run and struck out six in three innings, and Aaron Dott struck out three in three scoreless innings.

Short Season-A

Staten Island 5 – Brooklyn 7

Cito Culver went 3 for 4 with a stolen base and two runs scored, Ben Gamel went 1 for 4 with a double, a run driven in, and run scored, and Cody Grice went 2 for 4 with a run driven in. Zach Wilson also had a big game going 2 for 4 with a double, a homer, and two runs scored. Reymond Nunez and Casey Stevenson both added hits as well. Mason Williams went hitless. On the mound, Matt Tracy gave up four runs on six hits while striking out four and walking one in four innings. Caleb Cotham walked two, struck out one, and allowed two runs (one earned) in two inning and Zach Arneson allowed a run in his two innings of relief.

Yankees Farm Report: August 7, 2011

Triple-A

Scranton 4 – Louisville 5

Jesus Montero, Jorge Vazquez, and Brandon Laird each had a hit, Montero scored a run, Vazquez doubled and drive in a run, and Laird homered and drove in two. Luis Nunez had a perfect day going 1 for 1 with two walks and a run scored and Chris Dickerson went 2 for 4 with a double and a stolen base. On the bump, Manny Banuelos struck out five and walked none while allowing two runs on seven hits in six innings. He has looked very good since joining Scranton so if he keeps it up, you will see him in pinstripes in September. Logan Kensing followed by allowing two runs to blow the save and then Kevin Whelan blew the game in the eighth.

Scranton 4 – Louisville 3

Jordan Parraz, Doug Bernier, and Mike Lamb each had two hits, Parraz doubled, scored a run and Bernier walked, stole a base, drove in two runs, and scored once, and Lamb doubled and drove in the winning run. Chris Dickerson, Jorge Vazquez, Dan Brewer, and Gustavo Molina each notched hits as well. Lance Pendleton allowed two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out none in 3.2 innings. Andrew Brackman followed and had better command only walking one and striking out four in 2.2 innings of work. He did also hit two batters though.

Double-A

Trenton 2 – Altoona 3

Dellin Betances gave up two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out six in five innings. Pat Venditte then came on and allowed one run in two innings followed by a scoreless inning for Brad Halsey. Offensively, Corban Joseph and Rob Lyerly each went 1 for 4 with a double, Jose Pirela went 1 for 3 with a stolen base and a walk, and Melky Mesa and Zoilo Almonte each went hitless, Almonte did steal a base.

High-A

Tampa 8 – Dunedin 7

Kyle Roller went 3 for 4 with a run driven in and two scored, Luke Murton went 3 for 5 with a run scored and two driven in, and DeAngelo Mack went 4 for 5 with a double, a triple, a run scored, and three ribbies, including the game winning hit. Abe Almonte also had a big game going 2 for 4 with a triple and two runs scored and Cody Johnson went 1 for 4 with a run driven in. On the mound, Sean Black allowed six runs on seven hits in two innings. Mike Gipson followed with four strikeouts in four scoreless frames and Kramer Sneed came on after that to strike out four in two scoreless frames.

Low-A

Charleston 5 – Savannah 10

Jose Toussen, Gary Sanchez, and Anderson Feliz each had two hits, Toussen tripled, drove in two runs, and scored a run and Feliz scored a run. Garrison Lassiter went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored, Shane Brown went 1 for 4 with a walk and a run driven in, and Kevin Mahoney went 1 for 4 with a walk. On the hill, Nathan Forer allowed five runs on eight hits while striking out none in three innings. Michael Recchia gave up two runs in three innings, Francisco Rondon tossed 1.1 scoreless innings, and Kelvin Perez pitched a scoreless inning.

Short Season-A

Staten Island 2 – Brooklyn 10

Mason Williams went 1 for 3 with a walk and run scored, Ben Gamel went 2 for 4 with a stolen base and a run scored, and Cody Grice went 1 for 3 with a walk. Cito Culver went hitless, but did walk and drive in a run, and Zach Wilson, Reymond Nunez, and Casey Stevenson each notched hits as well. Evan DeLuca started this one and was pretty bad giving up three runs on five hits and four walks while striking out none. Zach Varce followed by giving up four runs in 2.2 innings.
